Pixel Vault Acquires Wolf Game

The CEO of Pixel Vault, GFunk, has acquired Wolf Game, a cult-classic in the NFT community. Wolf Game had the community going crazy when it launched in 2021, a strategy based game where wolves and sheep baa-ttled (sorry) for the token WOOL. The gameplay was based entirely on risk and reward, with "game theory" thrown around on Discord and Twitter next to people flexing their gains. Since then, there have been several iterations and mini-games released, building on the game's mechanics.

Pixel Vault has acquired exclusive, perpetual rights to the Wolf Game, giving them full control over its future. The new relationship aims to bring Wolf Game and its innovative gameplay to their Reboot Protocol. This protocol is designed to create decentralized, automatic reward liquidity and matchmaking marketplaces for skill-based games, ensuring auditable fair play and empowering gamers to have a say in its evolution. It recognizes players, developers, and other ecosystem participants as valued contributors and compensates them in various ways, including their native token, $GG. The Pixel Vault universe and all of its collections and assets are being consolidated with the introduction of "one token to rule them all," $GG.

Newzoo’s Gaming Report Summary

Newzoo provides comprehensive data on video games, gamers, and the gaming market globally. The 2023 edition of their Global Games Market Report has just dropped and covers the current state of the gaming industry.

The global gaming market is experiencing growth across many key metrics. The number of players worldwide has reached 3.38 billion, and the number of payers has increased to 1.5 billion, resulting in a total growth in global revenues to $188 billion. Mobile is the leading platform for new players. However, growth can be seen across PC, Mobile, and console. The industry has been strengthened by successful game-based transmedia releases like the Super Mario Bros Movie and HBO's The Last of Us. These have helped retain current gamers and attract new ones.

Although seeing a lower YoY growth in revenue, mobile remains king when it comes to revenue by platform. A topic we've covered previously is that mobile publishers are at the mercy of Apple and Google Plays policies to release on their marketplaces, with Apple recently winning the battle to keep their 30% tax on app purchases.

The report explores many in-depth trends, diving into AI and VR and their impacts on the games market. An exciting development that has been echoed by many in the Web3 gaming community is that content creators and influences are fundamental for marketing, growth, and overall game awareness.

Sky Mavis Greenlights Community-Powered Games

Axie Infinity creator Sky Mavis launched the Mavis Hub Greenlight—an upgraded Axie Builder’s program aimed to create new community-supported games.

Mavis Hub is the desktop app for Sky Mavis and Axie-based games, which allows developers to share alpha and beta versions of games with the Axie community, like Tri-Force and Culinary Wars.

Greenlight is the company’s latest initiative in community development, serving as a launchpad for community-developed, pre-production games. Building of the 2022 Axie Builder’s program, developers can launch games regardless if they’re internal devs, partners, or independent developers.

Greenlight is part of the latest update to the Mavis Hub and is available now for download.
