Wreck League

The trailer for Wreck League just dropped, the latest project developed by nWay in partnership with Animoca Brands. It's a real-time player-versus-player (PvP) fighting game where players use NFT-minted parts to build unique mechs that compete in the game. Each mech is an NFT crafted and owned by its creator, composed of 10 distinctive parts that determine the mech's abilities and appearance in battle. The game offers over 1.5 quadrillion possible combinations of fighters.

Season 1 of Wreck League showcases a collaboration with Yuga Labs, incorporating four Yuga collections: Bored Ape Yacht Club, Mutant Ape Yacht Club, Bored Ape Kennel Club, and Kodas. Holders of these collections can claim a free Founders Mech.

Value Creation outside of NFT Rarity

Wreck League is a AAA-quality game with mobile and PC cross-play functionality. The Web3 build will launch as soon as holders can mint and build their mechs, serving as the gateway into ongoing competition among mech owners and valuable on-chain rewards.

The Web2 build will launch later as a completely free-to-play game that will allow mech NFT owners and creators to manufacture in-game mechs they can sell to gamers as in-app purchases.

The game intends to implement features that enable individual owners to organize their own tournaments and gaming events, thereby nurturing a thriving community of grassroots contests focused on Wreck League.

If the game can deliver on the initial promises, this could be an inflection point in gaming innovation from IP incorporation with Seasons featuring projects across Web3 to enabling new ways for NFT owners to extract value from their assets. Apecoin will also play an important part in the game but was not detailed in the full blog post from Taehoon.

July Game Recap

The Big Blockchain Game List released their July report, covering the latest blockchain integrations, game releases, and announcements over the past month.

Last month, we saw 48 new games added to the list across 15 chains, making a total of 870 released and announced web3 games.

Polygon, the largest gaming blockchain by the number of games, continues to grow its dominance, with another six titles joining the platform.

Oasys is also continuing to gain momentum with two new games last month and the launch of Bandai Namco and Attructure’s RYUZO yesterday.

Note: Polygon may be the go-to blockchain for traditional companies entering web3, but Oasys is a clear leader in acquiring AAA studios entering web3. Learn more about Oasys.

XRPL is the newest chain on the list, with this month’s addition of Dark Oak Studios’ Scrapt and Rangers, home to Pangu Software’s MetaCene.

Unfortunately, the month wasn’t without casualties. Two games, Neopets and The Football Club were discontinued, with the former leaving web3 to focus on web2 gaming.

Our goal with No Re is to elevate the builders and players in web3 gaming, and we greatly appreciate the work from the Big Blockchain List. So big shout-outs to them, and make sure to give them a follow on socials.

a16z Bullmarket SPEEDRUN
